Easy Tomatoe Sauce from SCRATCH
This is my Grandpa Barry Bier's recipe. Is he Italian? No. But I am & I approve :0)
This Sauce was his creative way of getting his kids to eat some form of veggies. Do you have a blender or food processor? If yes then you can make this sauce QUICK!
Add these ingredients to your blender:
ROMA TOMATOES (5 or so depending on their size & how much sauce you want)
1 Green Pepper (OR use a red, orange or yellow pepper for a sweeter less acidic taste!)
3 cloves of garlic (I like A LOT of garlic & it's super good for you but use at your discretion)
1 YELLOW OR SWEET ONION
Oregano (Spice or fresh)
Basil (Preferably fresh but spice works too)
Italian Parsley (Preferably fresh but spice works too)
Salt & Pepper
****BLEND UNTIL SMOOTH or leave it chunky but I (& most kiddos) prefer smoooth****
ADD BLENDED MIXTURE TO A LARGE STOVE TOP POT OR THROW IT ALL IN YOUR CROC POT!
IN ADDITION TO THE BLENDED MIXTURE ADD THESE INGREDIENTS TO YOUR POT:
1 LARGE CAN OF TOMATOE PUREE
1 CAN OF TOMATOE PASTE (if you want to thicken it up a bit)
1/4 CUP OR LESS OF RED WINE OR RED WINE VINEGAR (OPTIONAL! THIS JUST ADDS A RICHNESS & SWEETNESS)
ALLOW FOR COOKING TIME! THE LONGER YOU LET THIS COOK THE BETTER IT TASTES. I HIGHLY SUGGEST USING A CROC POT BECAUSE YOU CAN THROW IN ALL THE INGREDIENTS IN THE MORNING, SET IT TO LOW HEAT THEN FORGET ABOUT IT TIL DINNER! ENJOY!
TO COMPLETE YOUR MEAL COOK GROUND TURKEY IN A SKILLET UNTIL BROWNED & ADD TO YOUR CROC POT SAUCE OR STRAIGHT TO YOUR DISH!
YOU CAN ALSO COOK UP SOME ZUCCINNI TO ADD TO YOUR PLATE!
(i like to just cut it into quarters and cook on the skillet w/ olive oil & garlic powder breifly so it doesn't get too mushy)
Not in the mood or don't have the time to cook veggies? NO WORRIES!
